Sleeping In Barcelona Airport | Where To Sleep In BCN Airport

Barcelona El Prat Airport(BCN) stays open for 24 hours a day. However, we have information that the airport terminal 2C gets closed at midnight(after the last flight from Easyjet as the terminal served mainly Easyjet flights) and opens at 4 am in the morning.

Many overnight sleepers are served overnight At BCN Airport. So you won’t be the only one looking for a quiet, comfortable sleeping spot. Although throughout the airport plenty of seating options are available.

Unfortunately, most of the airport seating at BCN Airport has armrests (metal chairs) which is not conducive for overnight sleeping. Normally Terminal 1 is quieter than Terminal 2, but Terminal 2 has armrest-free seating available in some places. Other than sleeping on the seating options, you can lie down on the floor if you don’t mind.

However, keep in mind BCN Airport floor tiles get very cold overnight so you should come prepared with sleeping gear if you want to sleep on the floor area. The airport staff are convenient with overnight sleepers.

Sleeping In Barcelona Airport – Places To Sleep in Barcelona Airport

Plenty of seating options are available at BCN Airport terminals 1 and 2. However, most of the seating are metal chairs with armrests. So finding armrest free seating spot could be tricky for you as there are many overnight sleepers who will take the place before you get it! You will find the most comfortable sleeping spots in the following areas:

  • Terminal 1 upstairs get quiet at night and not so bright. In this area, you can sleep on the floor.
  • Terminal 1 near gate B29 you will find some cushioned benches with one side walled where you can lie down easily.
  • Gate U37 to U38 of Terminal 2 has armrest-free benches with plenty of rooms where you can sleep overnight. (Note: you may find this area locked. You have to arrive early enough or you should try sleeping here if your flight landed here). Update Info: We have information that this area no longer has armrest-free seating and most of the seats have the same design with armrests on both sides.
  • Jamaica Bar located in Terminal 2B has some chairs or seating that you can move for a makeshift bed(if you are lucky and the security staff doesn’t prevent you). Look for other cafes and restaurants where you can find the same kind of seating like Jamaica Bar.
  • You may find some tables with benches at Burger King in Terminal 2. You can use the benches for sleeping.
  • You can also sleep on the children’s play area(main Concourse) rubbery floors. The floor in this area is soft, and cushioned.

Final Word: Barcelona Airport stays open 24 hours a day and even some shops or eateries stay open as well. So sleeping overnight at this airport terminal is not a problem. However, most of the seating has armrests, meaning you will find fewer seating options without armrests and most of them will probably be occupied by someone else when you get there as the airport faces many overnight sleepers like you.

Keep in mind the airport tiled floors get cold overnight so try to bring a sleeping bag or mat or blanket and hoodie to get extra warmth if you sleep on the floors. Also bright light and noises are other commonly cited problems at EL Prato Airport so try to bring noise-canceling headphones or earplugs, eyeshades or eyemasks etc. Try to avoid noisy places(for example: near eateries or kitchens) for sleeping as even earplugs won’t help you.
