Sleeping In JFK Airport – Can You Sleep At JFK Airport?

JFK airport has multiple sleeping spots available throughout the airport areas. However, public gathering areas do not have many resting places. Also, most of the seats in public gathering areas have armrests which will make it harder for you to sleep at night. You will find decent sleeping spots in the following places.

Terminal -1:  At this terminal, many chairs and tables are available near the food court area. You can easily put them together to create a makeshift bed.

Terminal-2: Near the Cafe and eateries(which remain open throughout the night) you will find enough carpeted floors where you can sleep quietly.

Terminal- 4: Metal mesh benches with dividers are available near Norwegian Air check-in points. These benches are five feet long which will be perfect for stretching out. Terminal 4 near gates A9 to A21 you may find some place for sleeping with pillows and blankets available!

Terminal -5: Terminal 5 is the cleanest and most modern terminal among all the terminals at JFK. If you have no issue sleeping on the floor then this terminal area is perfect for you. Near gate 1 at this terminal security guards stay with the overnight sleepers so if you sleep on the floor at this area then you will feel safe.

Terminal -7: Throughout this terminal many large chairs with high backs are available. These chairs are more comfortable than other seating in the airport. You can easily sleep on these chairs.

Terminal -8: If you want some privacy while sleeping then this terminal is for you. In this terminal 2 steel banks are available that provide privacy. You can easily sleep on the floor.

Note: JFK Airport remains very cold and noisy at night. So if you do have any plans of sleeping at JFK airport then don’t forget to bring sleeping gear like a travel mat, sleeping bag(suitable for extra comfort and warmth), blanket, ear plug, eye shades etc. Also, keep in mind security checkpoint of this airport remains closed overnight. So, before your flight or until at least three hours, you won’t get access to the secured areas.
