Sleeping In Lisbon Airport | Where To Sleep In LIS Airport

Technically Lisbon Airport(LIS) terminals stay open for 24 hours a day, and most of the services close at midnight on both terminals. The security checkpoint gets closed at night. So depending on your arrival at the airport, you may have to stay in the pre-security area or public area if you want to sleep overnight at LIS Airport.

The airport securities are very cooperative with overnight sleepers and among the two terminals, terminal 1 has more comfortable sleeping options than terminal 2. Both terminals have a mix of armrests and armrest-free seating options.

Sleeping In Lisbon Airport Overnight

If you are not able to get a chance to sleep in the inside security area then you will have to spend overnight in the public area or presecurity area. This area of the terminals tends to have harder furniture and colder floors than inside the security area. Below are the good sleeping options you will find at the LIS Airport terminals area if you sleep overnight.

  • Near the food court and some of the gates of Terminal 1 you may find some benches where you can sleep easily.
  • Terminal 1 landside you will find quiet areas with some couches on the upper level.
  • Terminal 1 airside near gates S19 and S20 you may find special rest zones. In this area, most of the seats are large and made of plastic without any dividers. No one will disturb you here!
  • Near Gates 40 to 50 of the International gates of Terminal 1 some quiet corners are available for resting or sleeping.
  • Near gate 16 of Terminal 1, you will find some comfy couches.
  • Burger King located on the landside of Terminal 1 has some cushioned benches for sleeping.
  • Terminal 1 near gates 7 to 13 you will find some comfy couches in the cafe called Versailles. You can pull some couches or chairs to sleep until 5 am when the cafe opens!
  • In Terminal 1 you will find some military-style beds with a restroom for sleeping the whole night quietly! This area of the terminal stay quiet until 6:30 am when the flight starts arriving. For the exact location, you may ask the nearest airport employee and they will guide you.
  • Terminal 1 Airside area you will find some sleeping options near Schengen Area where many armrest-free seating are available.

Overall other than sleeping on the seating of some specific areas, you may sleep on the floor area as there are many like you. If you want to spend overnight in the floor area then try to bring some extra layers for added comfort. The airport terminal’s temperature gets cold overnight.

So try to bring a blanket or sleeping bag or a hoodie.LIS Airport does not have issues related to bright light, but you should bring an eyeshade or eyemask as an extra precaution.

Also, noise is the other most cited problem like the cold temperature at LIS Airport. So try to bring a noise canceling headphone or earplug.
